A milestone for the crew of Kora – Doug officially felt relaxed enough to leave the boat at anchor UNATTENDED!!! Mark the date! We zipped to shore while anchored at Giglio Campese on the Isola del Giglio for some well-earned adventure and pizza… not because we were out of food (despite the 7 unexpected nights at anchor!) but because – the seaside cafes were calling our names with promises of cold drinks and stunning views!

We dinghied ashore and enjoyed our delicious reward with a full view of Kora anchored peacefully in Campese Bay. Tasty appetizers, pizzas, and icy-cold Cokes were ordered, devoured, and naturally followed up with our beloved White Chocolate Magnums – because anchoring like pros deserves dessert!

A post-lunch wander led us past a fish truck slicing up an impressively large tuna and on toward Torre del Campese, where sweeping views over the turquoise waters and Kora glinting in the sun made for a perfect coastal moment.

Back on board, we wrapped up the evening chatting with a lovely American couple anchored nearby – and get this: their boat was also registered in Austin, TX! “Isn’t Austin landlocked?” you ask. Well, yes!!! We chose it for Kora’s port of registration since Doug and I met there. The other couple had lived there before moving aboard full-time. What are the odds of running into another Austin-registered boat out here? Pretty much zero! Even funnier? Her name was Karen too! Saw a floating “booze boat” offering delivery service of drinks and gelato to vessels at anchor. Tempting, but our bellies were already full. Meanwhile, on the boat next to ours, a young boy played superhero on the bow – proof that the sea doesn’t just inspire adventure… it fuels imagination.
