A Day in Ribadeo, Spain

After a 10-hour journey across becalmed seas, we arrived in Ribadeo, Spain, a city lying on a deep estuary formed by the river Eo. Had a lovely stroll to the center of town, where we picked up some new fishing gear and enjoyed a lovely dinner. Upon returning to the boat for a lively game of “That’s Not a Hat,” a gift to the boat from Amanda & Evan – essentially a masterclass game in bluffing and creativity – however, our bewildered expressions barely passed as poker faces, making it hilariously obvious that failed memory led to each of us was just winging it.

The following day in Ribadeo began with a leisurely walk into the charming town, where we soaked in the picturesque surroundings and local culture. After a short taxi ride, we arrived at the breathtaking Playa de las Catedrales, or Cathedral Beach, named for its dramatic rock formations resembling European cathedrals’ gothic architecture. These stunning natural structures, formed by the relentless erosion of wind and the Cantabrian Sea, feature enormous rock arches and hidden caves just waiting to be explored.

The adventure continued with an interesting train ride back to town. We traversed a lush dairy farm before arriving at a solitary platform, where we anxiously awaited the arrival of our train. The pastoral scenery, punctuated by the earthy aroma of cow patties, added a rustic charm to our journey, making it a sensory experience that was as memorable as it was unique.
