Otok Drvenik Veliki – The Blue Lagoon

Another day, another dazzling anchorage. Today’s stop: Uvala Krknjaš, better known as the Blue Lagoon, tucked off Otok Drvenik Veliki, just west of Split. The name says it all – the water here shimmers in shades of turquoise and aquamarine, as if it has been lit from within. Definitely warm, inviting, and impossible to resist.

Dad wasted no time – straight off Kora’s sugar scoop with a dive that deserved a replay (but of course I missed the video… next time!). The rest of us quickly followed. Kaitlyn and I took the paddleboards out, though I’ve been a little hesitant to fully stand up since breaking my hip. Today I decided it was time. With motorboats buzzing around, wakes rippling in every direction, and a sneaky current pushing me toward a neighboring catamaran, my “career” was short-lived. Three attempts, three short paddles, three big splashes – but I’m counting that as a success!

Entertainment was everywhere as the anchorage quickly filled up. Day boats arrived in waves: a bachelor party in full swing, music and laughter drifting over the water, and in the distance, two boats so overcrowded they seemed to be spilling people into the sea like popcorn kernels exploding out of the pot. Honestly, I’m not sure how they all fit on board. Thankfully, no group lingered too long, the constant turnover keeping us amused without overstaying their welcome.

Back on Kora, Kaitlyn and I broke out her little gift to the boat – Legos! Our engineering daughter insists Kora had been missing them, and she was right. We built away, and she’s already planning Lego “blooms” for next time to add a splash of color to the salon.

Meanwhile, Dad tried his hand at fishing, determined to change our luck this year. Success! … Well, sort of. He reckons he’s always dreamed of catching a mermaid – and can now tick that box! Turns out, this one came without the seashells. Haha! Let’s just say swimsuits are optional in the Med, and it seems someone nearby had decided to embrace the freedom.

Given the lack of fresh seafood, Kaitlyn took to the kitchen to prepare a lovely dinner of chicken fajitas – the idea borrowed from Khali & Cam’s recent visit. Delicious, colorful, and perfect for a warm evening at anchor. Music carried us through the night – Aussie favorites like John Williamson, and even a round of “Country Roads” in honor of our West Virginian crew member. Who knew Blue Lagoon karaoke was a thing?

Another fine day on the water – sun, swims, Lego builds, mystery “catches,” fajitas, and a chorus of John Denver. Not a bad way to spend a Friday!
