Addio, Amico Mio – Farewell to Buzz and onto Pisa

Today we said a heartfelt addio, amico mio to Buzz, who’s been more than just crew these past weeks. Joining us for a second summer aboard Kora (last year through Spain and Portugal), he brought not only his steady hands and sailing know-how, but friendship, laughter, and true companionship. We’ll miss him deeply, and already look forward to reuniting next year as we sail along the coast of Greece.

Now it’s just the two of us aboard Kora until June 30, when Karen’s brother Steve and family join us in Rome. In the meantime, we’re soaking in the rhythm of the sea, starting with an effortless sail to Pisa – a perfect day with gentle winds and low humidity. We caught up on some laundry when underway and felt victorious as we tackled our first Med mooring solo this season (success!)

Having visited Pisa before, we opted for a quiet rest day aboard Kora rather than catching a train or bus into Cathedral Square. Instead, we reminisced about our 2011 visit with Kaitlyn (10) and Emily (7) – looking adorable as they struck classic poses “propping up” the Leaning Tower. Thanks to stabilization efforts back in 2008, the tower still leans at exactly 3.97°.

And who can resist another sunset pic – taken from the fore deck of Kora as we relaxed on the boat, eating a lovely Indian dish cooked onboard with a side of naan 🙂
