Drifting to Albenga: A Day in the Breeze

Some days don’t need many words. Just time spent sailing with a little breeze and the rhythm of life at sea. Today was one of those slow, sun-warmed days spent coasting lazily along the Ligurian coastline. The Med shimmered in every shade of blue, boats of all kinds dotting the horizon: sleek motor yachts, sailing boats of all sizes, sun-faded fishing boats, and cheerful clusters of dinghies and kids (can you spot them in the photo below?) learning to sail together under a wide open sky. We have loved seeing the groups of kids out on the water in the sea-going communities along the western and southern coasts of Europe!

On board? A little reading, sudoku, naps in the sun, a fishing line trailing off the stern. I even whipped up some blueberry bars! And when we anchored off Albenga, we enjoyed jumping off the back of Kora for a nice dip in the Med. Water temps are warming up. A local weather app reported sea temperatures of 25°C (77°F). Very comfortable for swimming in! The weather is beautiful, with highs around 30°C (86°F).

As we enjoyed dinner aboard Kora, soft Italian melodies drifted out from the shore, setting the perfect backdrop to a peaceful evening at anchor. Of course, in true Italian fashion, the volume (and energy) climbed, and by dessert (blueberry bars), the restaurant had transformed into a full-blown disco. But Italians wear their noise with charm, and even with the beat pulsing across the bay, we tired seafarers had no trouble drifting off to sleep.
