Today our adventures saw us traveling to Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands. Known for its stunning beaches, limestone mountains, and vibrant nightlife, Mallorca has long been a jewel of the Mediterranean and is a popular tourist site for Europeans and Brits. Our journey there made for a long day, covering 64 nautical miles in around 11.5 hours. With winds staying for the most part below 10 knots and often at an angle less than 30 degrees, we motor sailed for most of the way.
By the time we arrived and moored on our buoy ball in Sant Elm we were utterly exhausted. Yet, the allure of Mallorca’s crystal-clear waters beckoned, and we couldn’t resist a bit of snorkeling along the rocky shoreline. The underwater world was teeming with vibrant, colorful fish, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
Back on the boat, we enjoyed cool beverages, savoring the moment as the sparkling lights along the coast flickered to life. As the night deepened, the sky became a canvas of twinkling stars, perfect for some peaceful stargazing.
The next day was spent in a leisurely manor, sleeping in (until close to noon!!!), then taking a short 20 nm trip to another mooring ball, this time in Cala Blava, as we positioned ourselves closer to Palma. Winds were a little stronger, reaching up to 15 knots, so it was a rather spectacular sail along the coast.
