Ever had that experience on a rollercoaster where you feel like your butt is leaving the seat as you accelerate down a hill? I felt that thrilling rush today as we headed out to the sea, sailing from Nazaré to Lisbon. After a late night out, I decided to sleep in, leaving Doug and Buzz to take control of our 6am departure. Picture this: you’re cozy in bed, swaddled in the comforting embrace of sleep, and suddenly, your entire body lifts up as we plummet down the back end of 5-7ft swells. It wasn’t until the 3rd rise that I realized what was happening! It was like a wild, nautical dance that my dreams couldn’t keep up with.
Arriving in Lisbon, the city greeted us with open arms and endless surprises. Around every corner, there’s a new square to discover, each one brimming with life. Quaint cafes, vibrant restaurants, stunning monuments, and amazing architecture each tell a unique story of the city’s rich history. We stumbled upon pop-up markets and various festivals, each adding to the city’s dynamic tapestry. Of course, we had to make numerous stops throughout the day to sample delicious pastries and sip the local wine. Wine in Lisbon is surprisingly affordable; most bottles cost less than 10 euros in the stores, and a good bottle for dinner costs only 15-25 Euros. We’re guessing that since all you can find is Portuguese wine, it keeps prices down, thanks to minimal import costs. And with all the walking we did—5 to 10 miles a day—indulging wasn’t too bad for the figure.
Had a fun time taking a ride around town in a Tuk-Tuk decorated with pink feathers and flowers. Quite the experience! Sad to say goodbye to Kate after after a wonderful 10 days together. Cheers to Lisbon and the memories we’ve made! Now, onward (through orca territory – yikes!) as we make our way toward Lagos over the next few days.
