Our day in A Coruña began with an early morning walk to the magnificent Torre de Hercules. Built by the Romans between AD 98-117, this ancient marvel is the world’s oldest functioning lighthouse, offering breathtaking panoramic sea views over A Coruña. From this extraordinary vantage point, we could see the entire Golfo Ártabro stretching from Cabo San Adrián to Cabo Prior. The lighthouse, surrounded by a coastal park with a sculpture garden and an array of beautiful wildflowers, provided a serene and picturesque start to our day. After a lovely lunch accompanied by some local vino, we headed to the Castle of San Antón. This impressive fortress, constructed in the 16th century during the reign of Philip II, once protected the city from pirate invasions.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the christening of our boat, Kora. The beautiful ceremony was led by our good friend Evan, whose heartfelt words added a profound sense of occasion (see the video below!). We were deeply honored to have our friends Amanda and Buzz with us, along with a wonderful group of fellow sailors from various boats docked around us. As we gathered on the deck, the air was filled with stories of sea adventures and shared dreams, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. Toasting with champagne, we celebrated not just the christening of Kora but also the bonds of friendship and the spirit of exploration that brought us all together. In that moment, under the golden glow of the setting sun, surrounded by laughter and love, we felt truly blessed. We feel so grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the many more adventures that Kora will carry us on.
