What a glorious morning as we headed out in the Pertuis d’Antioche for our inaugural sail. Accompanied by Captain Patrick, we put Kora to the test. Pleased to say she faired well reaching speeds up to 9 knots with 16 knots of wind. We anchored out in the bay and the next morning raised the G0 sail (manufactured by North Sails) – a sail made for light winds – as we headed back in. What a beauty! In just 7.5 knots of wind we were able to reach speeds of 5.5 knots. Impressive! Lot’s of docking practice for both Doug & Karen which felt a little like a game of Frogger (80s era computer game) as we dodged numerous sail and motor boats in the busy Port de Plaisance de La Rochelle. More practice needed on docking but we got the thumbs up from our Captain and feel ready to tackle this alone. We were surprised to learn that in Europe it is common to see boats rafting up to another boat when there is no free dock space! To get to shore you board the other boat and walk around the bow to get to the dock. Took the dingy for a test drive too 🙂 And enjoyed checking out all the other Fountaine Pajots in the water. Be sure to check out the videos taken with Karen at the helm!
