Packing Light

Preparing for a four-month sailing escapade presents some challenges in packing. Adding to the challenge was the fact that we needed to pack a microwave, power tools, and many other things for the catamaran. Why bother with the microwave & power tools – it was a matter of cost. Kora is fitted with US outlets, and we were faced with having to pay $800 to have it sourced to France and installed or pack the $175 microwave and carry it with us! Quickly learning that sailing is not a cheap hobby, so we packed it! We were so impressed that, with what felt like a game of Tetris, we were able to fit everything in just 8 bags.

Of course, we were flagged as we tried to pass through security, and we had some interesting conversations with the security officers 🙂 Bags with the “questionable” items were taken with a promise to return them in Barcelona. Expecting this, we had equipped both bags with AirTags. Still, we must admit that we felt a bit nervous as two of the three gangways were removed, and our bags appeared to be still sitting in the cruise terminal. No need to fear; they made it onboard, albeit the last items before we sailed off. Time to grab a drink and start relaxing!!! Minus 16 days and counting until we meet Lady Kora in La Rochelle.
